How to Naturally Support Your Health in the Fall and Winter

Brrrr! It’s chilly and windy in Wisconsin today and I LOVE IT!!!! :) Fall and winter are my favorite seasons (yes, I’m serious). While I love the colder weather, I do take a little extra care to be sure I can enjoy all of the fun things the colder weather (and the snow) has to offer. Welcome Fall

Thieves Cough Drops offers comfort by relieving coughs, soothing sore throats, and cooling nasal passages. Thieves Cough Drops are minty, spicy, and sweet without processed sugar, dyes, artificial flavors, or preservatives. Dissolve 1 drop slowly in mouth. Repeat every 2 hours as needed. You’ll want a stash of these at home, at work, in your car, and in your purse.

Young Living’s Cool Azul Pain Relief Cream contains Wintergreen, Peppermint, and Cool Azul essential oils. It provides a natural cooling relief from minor muscle and joint aches, arthritis, strains, bruises, and sprains. Apply this cream to the affected area up to 3-4 times daily. Just think of all that leaf raking and snow shoveling you’re going to end up doing in the coming months and how much you’ll need this stuff!

NingXia Red and Thieves Vitality are immune supporting powerhouses! NingXia Red includes juices and extracts from superfruits such as aronia, plum, blueberry, and pomegranate, plus a whole-fruit puree of exotic wolfberries. In addition to these antioxidant ingredients, NingXia Red’s formula includes pure vanilla extract and Lemon, Orange, Yuzu, and Tangerine essential oils for a great-tasting, healthy treat. Thieves Vitality is a powerful blend of Lemon, Clove, Eucalyptus Radiata, Cinnamon Bark, and Rosemary essential oils. Drink 1-2 ounces of NingXia Red daily – drink it alone or try it with a drop of Thieves Vitality (or your other favorite Vitality essential oil). Thieves Vitality can also be taken by putting 1-2 drops in a capsule with carrier oil, adding 1-2 drops to warm water and honey (I also like to add a drop of Lemon essential oil), or putting 1-2 drops in a spoonful of honey. Thieves Vitality can be taken once daily, or as needed.

Inner Defense is a liquid softgel that supports the immune and respiratory system. Take 1 Inner Defense capsule daily in the morning or take 1 capsule 3-5 times daily when the body is stressed. Life 5 is a probiotic that contains 10 billion active cultures and improves colonization up to 10 times. Life 5 builds and restores core intestinal health by providing five clinically proven probiotic strains including two advanced super strains to enhance intestinal health, sustain energy, and improve immunity. Take 1 Life 5 capsule every night following a meal, or as needed.

Inner Defense

Other essential oils and supplements that I would recommend stocking up on this fall and winter are below. :)

SniffleEase is part of the KidScents Oil Collection, which are formulated and pre-diluted for use on kiddos ages 2-12. SniffleEase is a blend of Eucalyptus Blue, Palo Santo, Lavender, Dorado Azul, Ravintsara, Myrtle, Eucalyptus Globulus, Marjoram, Pine, Eucalyptus Citriodora, Cypress, Eucalyptus Radiata, Black Spruce and Peppermint essential oils. I don’t think I need to elaborate on the purpose of this oil – the name pretty much sums it up. :) Diffuse SniffleEase up to 1 hour 3 times daily -OR- apply onto the lungs, throat, and the bottom of the feet (you may want to attach an AromaGlide Roller Fitment for easy application).

RC is a blend of Eucalyptus Globulus, Myrtle, Pine, Marjoram, Eucalyptus Radiata, Eucalyptus Citriodora, Lavender, Cypress, Tsuga, and Peppermint essential oils. When diffused or applied topically, RC essential oil blend feels invigorating to the chest and throat area. Diffuse RC for 30 minutes three times daily -OR- dilute RC with a carrier oil and massage onto the chest, throat, back, on the bottom of the feet, and on the outside of the ears. You can also swipe the sinuses and nasal passages with RC (put a drop of RC and a little carrier oil on a Q-tip and swab the inside of the nose).

Raven is a blend of Ravensara, Lemon, Wintergreen, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus Radiata essential oils. Raven is deeply soothing and can provide comfort when diffused or applied topically to the chest and throat. Diffuse Raven for about 30 minutes three times daily – OR- dilute it with a carrier oil and massage onto the lungs, throat, and the bottom of the feet.

Breathe Again is an essential oil blend in a convenient roller bottle. This means that you can easily carry this oil around with you (in your purse or pocket) and apply it without making a mess. I love on the go stuff! Breathe Again is a blend of Eucalyptus Staigeriana, Eucalyptus Globulus, Laurel, Rose Hip, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Copiaba, Myrtle, Manuka, and Eucalyptus Blue essential oils in a coconut oil base. To use, apply Breathe Again Roll-On every 15 minutes to the chest, across the sinuses, and under the nose up to four times per day (just unscrew the cap and roll it right on – easy peasy).

DiGize Vitality is a blend of Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Fennel, Lemongrass, Anise, and Patchouli essential oils. DiGize is a powerhouse when it comes to supporting the digestive system! You’ll definitely want DiGize in your oily arsenal for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years! :)  DiGize Vitality can be taken by putting 1-2 drops in a capsule with carrier oil, adding 1-2 drops to warm water and honey, or putting 1-2 drops in a spoonful of honey. DiGize Vitality can be taken once daily, or as needed after eating.

Super C tablets provide 2,166% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C and are fortified with electrolyte-balancing ingredients to promote immune and circulatory function. To reinforce immune strength, take 2 tablets daily. For maintenance, take 1 tablet daily. Super C works best if taken before meals. Super C is also sold in a chewable form for the non pill swallowing peeps. :)

Benefits of Diffusing Essential Oils

WHY SHOULD YOU DIFFUSE ESSENTIAL OILS

What do you think of when you hear the word aromatherapy? Lighting a nice scented candle? Adding essential oils to a wax warmer? Using an air freshener? Either way, I bet you think of filling a room with a nice fragrance, right? Well, this isn’t actually true aromatherapy…it’s more like fragrancing. If you are using air fresheners (blagh!), perfume grade essential oils (blagh!), or candles (blagh!) it can actually be toxic fragrancing. True aromatherapy is so much more than just a nice scent. True aromatherapy can have profound effects on our health and well-being, body, mind, and emotions. To experience the many benefits of true aromatherapy, you need to use high-quality essential oils (like Young Living essential oils). You also need to disperse the essential oils into the air using an ultrasonic or cold air diffuser (as heating essential oils destroys the oils’ therapeutic properties).

*To clarify: You can use essentials oils in a wax warmer. However, please use a good quality essential oil versus a perfume grade essential oil. FYI… Heating essential oils will only make your home smell nice. Because heat destroys the therapeutic properties of essential oils, you won’t get any health benefits from putting essential oils into a wax warmer. However, diffusing essential oils will fill your home with an amazing scent and allow you to experience the true health benefits of aromatherapy. :)

Benefits of diffusing essential oils:

As stated above, diffusing essential oils can offer an abundance of health benefits. The benefits seem endless, but I summarized some of them below.

  • promotes a restful nights sleep
  • improves concentration and focus
  • stimulates secretion of endorphins
  • improves concentration, alertness, mental clarity, and focus
  • invigorates and energizes
  • freshens the air and neutralizes odors
  • deepens your spiritual connection
  • creates a spa like atmosphere
  • balances emotions and uplifts mood
  • supports the immune system
  • supports the respiratory system
  • soothes nerves and relieves occasional tension
  • and so much more!

My favorite essential oil diffuser:

Young Living offers many high quality essential oil diffusers. I diffuse my essential oils using the Young Living Home Diffuser (because this diffuser rocks and also because it came in the Premium Starter Kit). The Home Diffuser is a cold air diffuser. It combines a humidifier, air purifier, atomizer, and aromatherapy diffuser into one product that safely releases essential oils into the air. The Home Diffuser breaks the essential oils and water into millions of micro-particles, disperses them into the air, and activates the powerful plant constituents found in Young Living essential oils. The fine mist that comes out of the diffuser will actually sit in the air for hours, providing therapeutic benefits long after your diffuser has finished running!

How to use the Young Living Home Diffuser:

The Home Diffuser contains a water reservoir, which holds about 1/2 cup of water. Open the water reservoir by lifting the lid. Fill the reservoir to the fill line with room temperature distilled or purified water (distilled is preferred). Then add about 5-8 drops (adjust per your preference) of your favorite Young Living essential oil to the water (we usually use 5-6 drops). Replace the lid. Turn the diffuser on by pressing the button on the front of the diffuser (green light). Press the button again to put diffuser on the alternating 30 second on/off setting (red light). To turn the diffuser off, press the button a third time. To turn the ambient light off while running, simply press and hold the button for about 2 seconds until the LED light turns off. The diffuser will shut off automatically when out of water.

How often and how long should you diffuse essential oils?

I personally find it helpful to diffuse essential oils on a daily basis. My hubby and I usually run our diffuser until it runs out of water and it shuts off on its own. However, diffusing essential oils for even just 10 minutes, 3 times per day will support your health.

How do you know which essential oil you should diffuse for specific support?

Each essential oil offers its own set of benefits. You’ll definitely want to obtain a reference guide when you start using essential oils. A reference guide will tell you which oil to use for relaxing, energizing, etc. Here are a couple of places where you can buy reference guides.
