Homemade Body Butter Recipe with Young Living Essential Oils


I recently found an article that listed some of the dangerous and toxic things in our body products. This prompted me to pay more attention to the ingredient list on some of our body products at home. It didn’t take me long to realize that I had no clue what I was putting on my skin! Then I started thinking about how I need to be even more active when it comes to “bottle swapping.” “Bottle swapping” is the practice of replacing the toxic bottles of body products (and cleaning products) we have in our home with more natural and non toxic products that will help bring our body back into balance. While Scott was gone on a hunting trip this past weekend, I mixed up my very first batch of homemade body butter (I’ve made lotion bars before, but never body butter/lotion). Let me just say…this stuff is amazing and it smells superb! Oh yeah…and did I mention that it only took me about 10 minutes to make?!

Here’s how I made my own body butter…

1) In a glass mixing bowl, combine:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil.
  • 2 Tablespoons Young Living V-6 oil (or other liquid vegetable oil, which promotes skin health). A liquid oil like V-6 will keep the consistency of this lotion smooth (as coconut oil is solid at room temperature).
  • 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional).
  • 10-15 drops (adjust based on your preference) of your favorite Young Living essential oil (or combo of essential oils).  Try Lavender, Purification, or Frankincense (all which come in the Premium Starter Kit).

2) Use a hand mixer and mix the above ingredients together until it is thoroughly blended and the consistenceny is smooth.

3) Transfer the mixture to a shallow 4-8 ounce mason jar for easy storing. Ta-da! This recipe seriously took me only about 10 minutes make!

*Make sure you give this a little time to soak into your skin…it does feel a little oily at first, but that does go away.
